It was nice to be transported in time a bit.

I enjoyed King's delicate descriptions and summaries of the past, really, time in general. Harmonies, plus the past is obdurate! I was nervous about picking up a nearly 850-page book, but I went through it quickly - King has a great way of writing, and I thoroughly enjoyed this one simply because it was nothing like I've read from him before (note: I haven't read too many of his books, just a handful).

Sometimes I wished he got to the point just a bit faster, but mostly this was because I was curious how it was all going to wrap up. When you keep saying the past is obdurate, I had an inkling about how King would conclude the story. However, I loved the ride getting there. It was sad but necessary, and all the in-betweens from start to finish made sense (oddly). I'll be thinking about this one for a while.

It wasn't a horror or even really a thriller. It was also a love story that I enjoyed but can't say blew me away. Regardless, it still had me close to the edge of my seat, wondering what would happen next. It's one of my favorite things about King's writing, and I think he did it super well here. It was gripping, moving, and thought-provoking, and I am so glad I gave it a chance.
