Girls Can Kiss Now: Essays by Jill Gutowitz
funny
2.5
Really wanted to like this book and admittedly had somewhat different expectations going in, but it just didn’t click for me. Not a fan of the “online-speak” style of writing, and especially for a book of this length, it just becomes onerous. I came away from this book wishing she gave it … more, somehow. The pop culture stuff was fun but I was constantly Googling to figure out what she was talking about, and her personal anecdotes were funny, but not necessarily relatable. Also, there’s little I find more annoying than Taylor Swift fans - especially gaylord - so that essay was a huge turn off.
Maybe it’s because I’m younger than Jill, but her humor and life experiences came across as very millennial and hard for me to connect with. I will say getting dumped by your first lesbian situationship at an Ariana Grande concert is f***ing hilarious.
