The Counterfeit Wife by Mally Becker

5.0

What a fun book. This book is a sequel to The Turncoat’s Widow featuring the two main characters of that book-Becca Parcell and Daniel Alloway and I enjoyed this book more, honestly. However you don’t have to read the first book to enjoy the second!

The characters are well-written and show a great deal of cleverness as they infiltrate society in Revolutionary-War era Philadelphia on a mission for General Washington to find a counterfeiter trying to destroy the economy of America and hurt the war effort. There is a great deal of intrigue and action, as well as a number of puzzles for the couple to solve. The book keeps the reader guessing without using gimmicks or tricks to keep suspense up. There’s just the right amount of exposition, action, character development, and mystery. And a hint of romance! I particularly enjoyed the historical grounding of the novel-counterfeiting was indeed a problem during the War and the book touches on other historical matters such as the role of slaves in society and how family of Loyalists were treated.

A nice fun satisfying read!
