Based on the acknowledgments, I think this was inspired by true events. Books like that sometimes feel sensationalized, but this one wasn't, and even the twists at the end felt authentic. I think that Thomas's straight-forward prose style has much to do with how readable this is. I will absolutely read Little Monsters, especially based on the teaser first chapter at the end of the paperback copy of The Darkest Corners.
