“The Missing is what tears the heart wide open.”

⚡️

This story mainly follows one of 2 daughters of a mentally ill mother. Neena, the MC rearranges her life so that she can constantly be in search of her mother, Freeda. Their grandmother, Nan, has her flaws as well but cares for the girls in their mothers absence.

Their mother usually leaves them and returns, but the last time they saw her was truly the last time. Though the truth is known, but not shared with the girls.

As Neena’s grows older, she gets tired of her ways - blackmailing married men. She meets a lawyer that changes her outlook on several things.

As her sister is hospitalized, threatened to miscarry - Neena’s plan to use this lawyer takes a backseat.

Neena finally realizes that her focusing on herself, instead of her mother, is for the best.

I liked how the story gave a look into Freeda’s upbringing and goes back to how her parents met.

I really think more stories should share how Mental Health and illness plays a part in how the person and their family deals with it as a whole.

Neena never gave up on her mother, Tish on the other hand couldn’t bare constantly reliving Freeda’s absence.

This was an interesting read with a very unpredictable ending.
