Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling

5.0

This book went way more in depth than the movie, am I right???

Goblet of Fire is one of my favorites from the series since it is kind of the pinnacle of the more light and fluffy HP books and the heavier, darker HP books. There is still some innocence to this story, but it also is balanced on the point where you know something very important is coming. Having to compete in the Triwizard Tournament means that Harry had to grow up very fast and face very real dangers. I think this helps set the tone for the next couple of books, since Harry has matured a great deal and the darkness that follows will only be survived by someone who is capable of understanding responsibility.

Anyway.... as always, there are things that books can go into better than movies can due to time constraints, which means that books are (almost always) better. For instance...

1.)The interactions between Harry and everyone else when his name got pulled from the Goblet were toned down in the movie. It would have been better to show more seriously how everyone was treating him before the first task.

2.) DOBBY!!! He was so important and I HATE how the movies just shooed his character to the side until Deathly Hallows. S.P.E.W was completely left out, and it would have been really interesting to see the kitchens of Hogwarts. (Although I do like that the movie changed it to Neville giving Harry the gillyweed, because it kind of formed something between them, giving Neville a leg in to feel useful)

3.) I think it would have been funny for Harry to have knocked into Karkaroff when he found out about the dragons, they could have played that bit up a little bit. Also, the fact that Karkaroff is never again mentioned after the Third task starts. Someone should have said something about how he disappeared.

4.)I really like that in the book Barty Crouch Jr. goes into a lot more depth about how he got to the point of masquerading as Mad-Eye Moody as the DATDA teacher. It's also interesting that in the book Barty Jr. tells Harry immediately that it was him that set all of this up for Harry to be brought into the graveyard, when in the movie Harry slowly comes to realize that it was him on his own. I like the book version better because it shows just how ruthless Barty Jr. is because he doesn't give a SHIT about Harry, not willing to spare his feelings or his pride in figuring it out on his own. I also wish that the movie had said something about how Cornelius Fudge had brought a dementor in to interrogate Barty Jr. and had immediately preformed the dementor's kiss on him and sucked out his soul. After Barty Jr. is found out in the movie, he just disappears even though he was a pretty vital in the return of Voldy.

Anyways, as always, any and all of the HP books will get 5/5 stars from me while I live and breathe. This series is probably my all-time favorite since it was the first favorite I ever had.
