Harrow really packed a lot into this little novella! This is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty, as told through the lens of a modern young woman who is also “cursed” with a short life expectancy. (More genetic mutation, less spindle prophecy.) The element I appreciated the most was our main character’s background in folklore. I learned about some other versions of the Sleeping Beauty tale. I don’t want to give away major plot points, but wow learning about Zellandine (a medieval version of Sleeping Beauty), was so powerful. Folklore is such a fascinating view of a specific cultural moment, highlighting societal values. I enjoyed this shorter read, but it also would have been great to expand this text! I got such a kick out of the other Sleeping Beauty girls from other dimensions and would have loved to read more about them.
