I’m pretty in awe of Novik’s writing abilities here! This story was so multilayered with so many POV’s. I think she did a terrific job developing distinct voices for all of them. Speaking of voices, this was narrated by only one person, and while I became familiar with her different accents eventually, at first I was very confused that we had switched POV’s. But then when I got fully on board with this story, I loved the listening process! Adapting fairytales and folklore into fiction is one of my favorite genres, and this was done so beautifully. At its core, it’s an engaging story about the power of young women, even in a culture that disregards or discriminates against them.
