Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

5.0

I loved reading this in English for the first time. The Dutch translations are pretty awesome, but everything sounded so much better in English.

The Chamber of Secrets isn't my favourite of the series, but I love how it's already darker than the Sorcerer's Stone. This series has really grown with the readers and every book gets a bit darker than the one before. I remember reading this book when I was younger and how the Basilisk was so scary to me. This books already gives some foreshadowing for the next books which is really neat. I also really appreciate how the books in this series never only focus on build up until the action starts. There is always something going on even though it might not be necessary for the main plot. It makes the world seem so much more realistic without ever getting boring.
