The idea of this book is excellent and I thought it was quite cleverly done in terms of how it built on the issues that arose during the covid pandemic and that follow us to this day. I really loved how the core of the book was constructed around domestic violence and generational trauma. As a fellow victim I appreciate how difficult it must have been for the author to write about it. For a good chunk, the book had me physically nauseous and trembling with rage, and there was no respite because horrible stuff just kept happening. I don't know if it was done knowingly, but it almost felt like I had nowhere to escape, just like the victims, and even when I finally got to breathe because the story calmed down a bit, I knew that there was still that one big threat, looming somewhere in the pages ahead.
I also liked the social commentary, but I thought it was a bit on the nose and that the story could have used some sublety.
