The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu, Ken Liu
4.0
I can see why The Three-Body Problem received so much attention and acclaim upon its release: it not only just feels different than more eurocentric SF, but it also pokes and prods at challenging social themes, and spends a lot of time exploring scientific theories.
I'm on the side of folks who found the science long and difficult to process, to the point that I'm glad I was listening to the audiobook because I could just tune it out momentarily; if I had been reading the physical book I don't know if I would have finished. I also didn't really like the extreme rationalist/zero-moral heart of the novel and it's making me reconsider reading books 2 and 3. But I did appreciate the quality of the writing and translation when it came to the main characters' stories and there was enough mystery and suspense to keep me listening right to the end.
