House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas

Sarah J Maas did it again. She took a tight grip of my heart and tossed it here and there ruthlessly as I sat in a soft corner of my home, and read the Crescent City. It’s only her books that can indulge me with so much drama within 5 chapters only.
The book had the perfect amount of heart-break, mystery, adventure, fantasy and romance. Crescent City also had a lot of interesting and unique characters. It was in fact the best combination of contemporary and fantasy genre I ever read!
Especially after going through a roller coaster of emotions, my heart felt so light and full by the end of this book. And…. I think I might’ve cried a little.
Now comes the tough part, the part where I say how the last half of The House of Earth and Blood literally saved this whole book from getting a much lower rating than 4.5 stars.
The basics and dialogues resembled the author’s previous books (Thone of Glass series) & (A Court of Thorns & Roses series) a lot, and I tried my best not noticing it for an uncountable amount of times until I had to accept the fact that maybe, the author didn’t put too much effort and imagination into this story as much as she had in all her other books. Even the sentences exchanged between characters felt like it had already been read.
I tried really hard not to get disappointed by this fact, but by the middle of this book, I realized I would be lying if I said I loved this book just as much as I loved all her other incredible works. At many points while reading, a part of me kept telling me how better the ToG and ACOTAR series was than this, and I hated that thought.
It’s not like I wasn’t hooked into this story - I completely was, but... I expected so much more from it, I have been since the day I found out this book was coming out. I had a hard time adjusting with the new world, as I’ve always liked the fantasy world with no phones and TV better.
But! The ending saved the book. The last 30 chapters were the best chapters in the whole story and I am all pumped up and excited to read the next book from this series. Hopefully that won’t remind me of her other books like this one did.
