“maybe happiness lies in immortalizing the golden moments, in bringing them out over and over, in order to bask in their glow.”
What a thought-provoking read. I randomly decided to pick this one up, knowing absolutely nothing about it nor having heard of the author before, and I was left with so many thoughts now that I’ve finished it. Rating this is difficult. Did I wholeheartedly enjoy certain passages of this? Yes. Did this make me think a lot? Absolutely. But when it comes to rating this as a whole book, I’m left unsure.
My heart ached for the women in this story - or shall I say, in the two coexisting stories we’re presented with? Both brilliant in their own way and in an aligning manner. Both encountering loneliness in, oftentimes, similar ways despite the years in between. Perhaps, loneliness is ageless. Just like love. I love the question this book posed: is it a story of love or is it a story of loneliness? You can draw your own conclusions.
I enjoyed the blending of literature, mathematics, and music. Myself I’ve studied literature extensively so that touched several heartstrings. This does present several mathematical concepts but I found them well-explained for those less familiar. Certainly, a story that will make you think a lot. Not a light a read, so pick this one if you’ve got some time to ponder.
I checked out the audiobook and I have to say the narrator did a splendid job! And the translation seemed beautiful. Short chapters too, always a plus!
