All The King's Horses by Carla Louise Robinson

5.0

I don’t know if I have the words to express just how much I loved this book. Nevertheless I am going to try to collate my thoughts into a coherent review.

All the kings horses is a portrayal of what those with invisible illnesses/disabilities have to face. Nola is injured in a plane crash that turns her life upside down. She is left mentally and physically scarred by the event as life tumbles on around her.

I know that part of the reason I loved this book is because of my own struggles due to chronic illnesses. I related to so much of what Nola had to face, not being believed by others, being excluded or not invited to events/opportunities because of my health and the frustration when doctors can’t figure out what’s wrong. But I also related to the positive parts too, the beautiful friends and strangers who pick you up when you are at your lowest, the kindness of doctors/nurses who believe you and go to great lengths to get you answers.

This book made me feel every emotion under the sun. I found myself shaking with anger and frustration at what Nola was facing. I ended up anxious and sat on the edge of my seat as similar memories flooded my mind. By the end of the book I was in tears. This is a stunningly vivid portrayal of the suffering faced by those with chronic illnesses. This is an absolute must read for anyone with a chronic illness, who loves someone with a chronic illness or those that simply want to understand.

Normally I thank the author for allowing me to read a book so I can give my personal thoughts. Yes I do thank Carla Louise Robinson for allowing me to read this. But mostly I thank her for bringing this incredible book into my life. This is definitely one I will read again.
