Thank you Sara for a e-arc of this book! All opinions are still my own.
This was solid, I read it so fast which is a great sign. Sara's writing was super easy to read and read speedily. I see SOO much potential for Sara here.
I really liked the short chapters, they really sucked me in and kept me reading. If chapters are too long I get distracted and stop reading far more often so this was great.
It was VERY angsty and the characters are somewhat immature (they are 18 for most of the book and then 28 for the rest so I can give them a break haha) You were rooting for the two main characters the entire time, just wanting them to get past all their shit so they can work it out.
While there are a lot of spicy scenes and they were written well I found there was almost too many that didn't drive the plot along. They just seemed to have sex out of absolutely nowhere while other things were happening or they were having a deep talk and that didn't sit well with me but other readers might not mind that so much. The way that Nick talked about sex sometimes gave me the ick but also an accurate portrayal of a teenage boys mind? hahah.
I really liked the dual POV (I preferred Lily's over Nick) but I especially like the older versions of their POVs. The ending of the bookwhen they reunited was my fave part and both of them had matured a lot so I was really rooting for them.
I think it’s an important story to tell and an important discussion to be had about rape. Also, I always love a book that has an “omg what the fuck am I gonna do with my life” moment cos it’s so good to be reminded that none of us actually know (even when we think we do!)
Overall I enjoyed this! I read it in 24 hours and it definitely held my attention. I would be interested in finding out what happens to this cast of characters (I did really like Bryce!!)
I would recommend people check trigger warnings before going into itrape, drug use
