The Stars Never Rise by Rachel Vincent

3.0

*3.5 stars, I think*

I've waiting so long for this book. I think I added it around this time last year to my TBR list on Goodreads? That's a year ago and ever since then I was eagerly awaiting its release! Now that it's here and I finally read it ... well, I'm slightly disappointed, to be honest. I had high expectations and that was probably my mistake. Oh well.

I couldn't really connect with the characters ... like, they were all okay and semi-interesting but I didn't form any relationship with them. At least not to the main characters. I liked Grayson and Maddock and wanted to know more about them but that's about it, really. I guess it had a lot to do with the insta-love between our main characters Nina and Finn. *sigh*

Let me tell you: It's terrible. I hate it and it annoys me so much! I couldn't take their relationship seriously ... maybe also because there wasn't really a "cute" moment between them. It was mostly just flirting and lots of kissing but they already act like they're in a serious relationship. I didn't like it.

But speaking of Finn ... his whole "situation" (I can't say much without spoiling you) is super weird and to be honest I'm not sure what to think of it. It's just ... WHY? Maybe there's a sense behind it that I didn't understand and we'll find out in future books but right now I'm only confused and frustrated.
SpoilerSeriously. I mean, she's kissing other people's boyfriends ... the boyfriends of her FRIENDS. HOW WEIRD IS THAT?!? TOO COMPLICATED!

Generally speaking I just expected it to be a lot different. I don't even know what I wanted - I just knew it was about demons and that it should have been epic but ... it wasn't. Now don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, absolutely not! I guess I just had too high hopes because I was waiting for it for so long? I don't know.

The ending was really, really good though - we got a few answers and lots of new questions but I'm curious and definitely intrigued to read the next book. I'd still recommend the book because I enjoyed it overall and with the ending it's actually better than I originally thought. There's still potential for it to be a really good series/trilogy/or whatever it is. Just lower your expectations and you'll probably like it a lot! :)
