In Love: A Memoir of Love and Loss by Amy Bloom
3.0
Book 3 in my unintentional year of reading about death and dying. The portions about the travel to Switzerland and Dignitas for the assisted suicide are narratively necessary but ultimately the less compelling half of this book. Maybe because it ultimately comprises only a small portion of a life well-lived. Maybe because we know how the story ends. Maybe because, having carried out the decision to solicit the services of Dignitas, there is less room to question and explore the execution of that decision. The highlights and the heartbreak are watching the diagnosis and decision unfold, leading up to the inevitable ending.
