City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

5.0

I'm not even sure where to start on my feelings for this book. First off, I'm angry at myself for waiting so long to even start this. It's been on my shelf for years, and I have the entire series in hardcover. I don't know if I was intimidated by the size, if I just thought I wouldn't like it, or if I thought other books were more important. Secondly, I was sucked into this book from the first couple of pages. I couldn't put it down. If it wasn't for sleeping and kids, I probably would have read the entire thing in one day. It was that good.

Let's start with the writing. It's amazing. Cassandra Clare is amazing. I seriously think I read the best line ever in YA fiction when Jace said, "That to love is to destroy, and that to be loved is to be the one destroyed." It ripped me open and left my heart on the floor. It shows the true inner struggle that Jace is dealing with.

Speaking of Jace, he's my new book boyfriend. I'm going to marry him. Move over everyone else...ok maybe not Warner from Shatter Me. He can stay. But back to Jace. He's such a well written, but emotionally flawed character. There's so much about him that is not yet discovered. He's like an enigma. I have so many questions about him and who he is. And his relationship with Clary. I don't want to give anything away but ummm, mind blow!!

I cannot wait to see Clary continue to grow into the person she is meant to be. I also cannot wait to see how the relationships continue to develop and what happens with the Shadowhunter world. I have so many unanswered questions!!!
