I signed up to review this beauty before I even realised that it is part of a series – I have always been enchanted with single parent and second chance romances (not with an ex, but a second chance at romance when one has been hurt badly!) and this book delivered all of it and more.

Lydia, a single parent with a torturous past, has settled down in the small town of Grant Harbor to move forward with her life; not just for herself but for her precious and precarious young daughter, Lilly. She has battled not only an abusive ex – husband but is also battling for her life on a daily basis. She knows and handles the baggage of her life on a daily basis and knows that no matter how enchanted she may be with a certain game warden it can’t ever go anywhere.
Aaron is a game warden – which means that he not only handles various wildlife and marine animals related situations, he also has the responsibility of his town folk as well as the tourists on his hands; a responsibility he takes very seriously and shares with his colleagues, including his twin brother. He wasn’t looking for love; but somehow he never figured Lydia and her daughter in his plans.
Both Aaron and Lydia are wonderful protagonists – it’s easy to empathize with Lydia and respect her strength and composure, especially when you come to realise the obstacles she has overcome and at times, is still battling with; to provide the best for her daughter. Everything she does, every decision she makes is for the well being of her daughter.
Aaron, on the other hand, is one of the most sensitive heroes I have had the pleasure of reading – I have to say, in a sea of alpha males with condescending attitude; it’s a wonderful change to read about a hero, who is protective, possessive and supportive covered in the subtle alpha attitude that I have come to adore. I loved how he was steadfast in his courting of Lydia and how he was absolute in his feelings, not only for her but also for her daughter, Lilly – in fact, his interactions with Lilly were some of my favourite scenes in the book.

My review will also be incomplete if I don’t actually talk about Lilly – now usually with single parent romance tropes; kids tend to take a backseat to the romance. But that was definitely not the case here – Lilly makes her presence felt and known in the book; in fact she was one of my favourite characters in the book.
I did find the writing style of the author a little stitled and awkward at times – but that’s my own experience; her plotting of the story and the characters though is absolutely flawless.
Lilies on Main is an emotional, heart-breaking romance between two strong individualistic characters who will steal a piece of your soul when you reach the end of the book.
