The Royal Burgh of Stranraer, 1617-1967-2000 by John S. Boyd
4.0
Loved the amount of now archaic local words used, and was fascinated by what the author chose to include. The sinking of the Princess Victoria warranted six lines, while twice that was given to a dispute in the 1700s in which one man accidentally built his house 2.5 inches onto another's land. Rolling my eyes as always at aspects of the politics, especially as it relates to the town's closeness to and disputes with Ulster. An acknowledgement of British colonialism would be nice. As would an acknowledgement of the region's Gaelic history, instead of chronicling every time a member of the royal family visited.
