Wow. Let's just start off with the fact that I'm having trouble coming up with coherent thoughts because the book was just that damn good. The characters are fantastic. I love Caldon and Kiva's platonic relationship; it truly gave me so much life. I also love how Kiva was developed in the second installment. This book fully surpassed the "sequel slump" and I literally could not stop reading. I loved the set up the first book gave, but this had so much background and new information that added so much depth and layering to the already great story. I love the elemental magic and the different types of magic. I was fully blown away by the twists leading up to the ending as well as the ending itself. I haven't had a book knock me speechless in a while and this absolutely did that. I can't wait to explore more of these friendships, sibling relationships, and romantic storylines. This book was absolutely magnificent, a little bit violent and dark and just fantastic storytelling.
