I don’t normally read college romances, they’re not really my jam. Especially not football college romances. But the premise of this one intrigued me. At first, it really didn’t grab my attention, it felt very two-dimensional, and surface level. It might have just been the comically huge font. Not sure if it was just my copy, but at least I didn’t strain my eyes too much. Once I managed to push past the first two chapters, it got very good. I don’t know how to emphasize enough how amazing this book is, how well written and attention grabbing it gets. The characters are so lovable, the plot is great, and the spice is top notch. I will say that there is minimal spicy scenes, considering this is a RH, but what little there is, is intense. And the yearning! The tension!
However, had I known that the next book takes place 5 years after the first.. five years! I never would have picked it up. How could the author do that to us?? Introduce the most adorable, hilarious (Jude), and broken characters that finally found each other after such tragic pasts, then tell us that they spent five years without each other. Five years of suffering? For what?? Guess I’m going to have to read it to find out the author’s justification for the emotional damage. I’m being dramatic, but you really do fall in love with these goofballs! And come to find out from an Amazon review that the next book is not all about Ash groveling and begging for forgiveness, that he’s barely in it!? Nah, I just don’t believe it.
Anyway, highly recommend this book if you want to torture yourself in the best way. It’s definitely cathartic for any nerdy girls out there who dreamt of being with the popular guy. Now image four hot popular guys chasing you.
Here are some tropes I noticed:
Reverse harem
Football romance
College romance
Cinderella vibes
Forced proximity
Only one bed, for a moment
Hidden identity
Touch-her-and-get-hurt
Evil stepsister/mother
Tragic past
Dual POV
Found family vibes, for a brief moment, can you tell I’m bitter about that ending 😑
Cliffhanger ending
Graphic: Sexual content
Moderate: Cursing
Minor: Death of parent
This book is mostly a spicy book, RH, with sexual content sprinkled throughout. There is mentions of bullying (not by the MMCs), harsh language about women, brief mentions of death of parents (with one of them being death by suicide very briefly mentioned as a memory), and a medical emergency that happens to the FMC. That’s all I can remember, but do check trigger warnings. My copy of the book did not contain any within the first couple of pages.
