Take the five, and even four, star reviews with a grain of salt, given how many of them start with the same language or include the same lines...while it could be described as "gripping", it was more that there were so many characters and so many arcs that it was difficult to keep track; six months later and I remember little at all. It's definitely not something to escape into, or to put down and go back to, even a day later.
