Brilliant. Masterfully crafted. Mind blowing. The twist towards the end had my jaw slack open.
Let's talk about the Mahabharat - one of the great Indian epics about family fueds that result in a great battle of Kurukshetra. Arnab Ray has taken inspiration from this timeless narrative and added a modern style to it - that of a murderer in Kolkata who thinks he is Duryodhan reborn. To write such a complex plot interweaved with an equally complex historic tale isn't just challenging but can be mind-numbing. Nonetheless, Ray has done excellent work at balancing both aspects - the epic and the modern world - in this novel.
I immensely enjoyed reading and trying to use my own Sherlock Holmes skills to detect the killer, but THAT TWIST? Probably never before seen or read in any murder mystery. Reading it made me realise the extent of parental abuse and its effects on a child's mentality.
