It's Tom Holt. And if you like Tom Holt, it's very good. It's exactly the type of story you'd want and expect. Wryly funny, mildly depressing, tolerably convoluted, slightly damp and deeply British. 

I used to love Tom Holt, but apparently this is no longer my vibe.
