Court of the Vampire Queen by Katee Robert
3.0
If you’re a student of mine and you have read this review, please for the love of all things good, don’t tell me you know this book. Some things are better left in the dark.
Ah, here we go… ahem ahem… this book is NOT, I repeat NOT, for anyone under the age of 18. The sexual content in this is off the charts and only for a mature audience. There were moments, even as a woman in my mid-twenties (I refuse to say late until I’m 29) who has read a lot of spice, where I was reading through squinted eyes with my head turned away to check that no-one was reading over my shoulder on the train.
This is a novel about Maia, a young woman/half vampire, sacrificed by her duck of a father to a starved vampire. Turns out this vampire is quite attractive, isn’t as bad as he was made out to be, and has umm two more equally attractive friends. Together they fight to take back the crown that is rightfully Maia’s and well… they aren’t always um fighting.
The three stars come about because this novel was entertaining. Sure, it was. Between the drama of Maia and her father, the battle scenes, and the tension, I found it quick to get through. The decrease of stars is due to the absurdity of some scenes (not just the spicy ones) and the cliches rife throughout. Also, at the risk of sounding like a prude, there was just too much adult fun times for the plot to even be worth being there, at times.
Triggers include blood, violence, human sacrifice, gore, and death. Sexual content includes detailed descriptions of intercourse and eeeeeverything that you could possibly think of that could come under that umbrella.
