The World Record Book of Racist Stories by Amber Ruffin, Lacey Lamar

emotional funny informative fast-paced

5.0

Lacey Lamar and Amber Ruffin are back and I am here for it! First, if you haven't read their other book You'll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey, I encourage you to put that at the top of your TBR right now. Once you've read that gem (also highly recommended on audio), come back for this second installment of heartfelt, appalling stories of racism in our country's "heartland."

The way Lamar and Ruffin tell their stories with equal parts humor and intentionality is impressive. It would be easy for these stories to overwhelm the reader with sadness and anger, but the authors use their sharp wit to poke fun at the absolute absurdity of racism. This is the kind of book I wish I could hand to so many boomers who don't think they are racist. It's absolutely fun and eye opening and a great reminder to everyone who cares about dismantling racism that we've still got a long way to go and we can laugh along the way.
