A Desirable Residence by Madeleine Wickham

This was quite a dissapointment. I really like the books the author writes under the name Sophie Kinsella, but so far the books she writes under her real name aren't great. This story tells the story of three families. Their stories are intertwined, but they all have their own problems and except for Johnathan the characters were so awful and stupid. In thHere end there was somewhat of an happy ending, but I just didn't care. They didn't deserve their happy ending and the resolution was so easy and unbelievable. Why would 3 adults hang out with a 14 year old girl that comes off as a stalker? Does this big shot estate guy think that if his fraud would be discovered they would just forgive him because he did something 'good' with it? There were just so many stupid things. Sometimes there would be a scene I really liked, but the author would always find a way to ruin it before the scene was over.

Honestly the only good thing about this book was the writing style. Wickham/Kinsella has an upbeat writing style that makes you fly through her books and makes you think you kind of enjoy it even when the book isn't great. I would recommend just sticking with the books she's written under her pseudonym though.
