Red at the Bone by Jacqueline Woodson

i’m completely floored by how this book just moved me. following three generations of a Black family from Tulsa to Chicago to New York City, we are given a broad look at sexuality, class, and race in just 200ish pages. the prose is so stunning - just STUNNING. each character grabbed the mic and breathed and walked off the page - they were more developed into real people than books with 600 pages.
this was a surprise favorite. while i loved and HIGHLY recommend the audiobook, i need to read the physical copy because there was so much history packed into every single page. i’m still absorbing it all after listening to it all in one shot. overall, i LOVED this book and this is definitely something you need to read.
