One of the biggest book-related surprises for me last year, was how much I loved the Shifters Unbound series by Jennifer Ashley. I've never really liked shifter romances, but I decided to give one of the books in this series a try, and ended up loving it. I'm working my way through the series, and decided to try out Wild Wolf, the 6th book in the series. However, while I liked Wild Wolf, I did have some issues with it.

What's the Story:

Graham is the alpha of his pack, but after a forced move into a new shiftertown, his pack has been quite unruly. He knows that if he took a shifter mate, his pack would calm down. But he has a human girlfriend, Misty. When Misty's life is in danger, Graham rushes to save her, but in the process he gets spelled by a Fey, and then his life gets even more complicated.

What I Liked:

• Wild Wolf starts off with a bang. It grabbed me immediately!


• I liked the very beginning. I enjoyed how Graham was dealing with an unruly shifter while also talking to Misty on the phone. He was just so capable, and not at all concerned with the shifter who was giving him problems. Unfortunately, my liking of Graham diminished pretty quickly (more on that below).


• For the most part, I liked Misty. She's an intelligent woman, and she knows what she wants out of life.


• The little shifter cubs, Matt and Kyle, were absolutely adorable. Honestly, I liked them the best out of all the other characters in the novel. They were always getting into mischief, but in the sweetest possible way. So cute! In general, Jennifer Ashley creates the best kid shifters.


• As always, Cris Dukehart was a great narrator.

What I Struggled With:

• Graham was too cranky for my tastes. He even ventured into asshole territory a few times there. He blamed something on Misty that I found completely unjustified and kind of babyish. Sometimes I even thought that Misty would have been better off without him. And although ultimately I was happy that they ended up together, I had issues with their romance.


• The whole plot about the fey and the curse was not my favorite. Part of it was because I never like stuff with the fey, but I also thought it dragged on a bit too long.


• Misty made a comment once that men don't know how to care of themselves (in terms of cleaning up after themselves, doing laundry, etc) and that totally annoyed me!

Final Thoughts:

While I enjoyed Wild Wolf by Jennifer Ashley, I had some issues with this one. There are better additions to the series, in my opinion.This review was originally posted on Quinn's Book Nook
