Friends vs. Family by C.L. Stone, C.L. Stone
5.0
"It's your choice. Parents and siblings are your relations. Family takes care of one another and helps each other. When each side is working together, when everyone wants it, that makes the difference.”
Although Sang holds her tongue when it comes to questioning the real deal behind what the Academy is all about, she finds it hard to become part of the boys' family not knowing what's really going on. She struggles with being on the outside even as the group protect her at every cost.
When her mother punishes Sang pushing her over the edge to a point where her life is at serious risk, the boys are adament to pull her out but Sang knows that she has to stick by her family at home. Her mother being sick cannot be left alone and Sang knows better than to leave it as late to call the guys again as they try to prove their unyielding loyalty. Taking shifts, the group stay with Sang and she begins to get closer with them.
All the while, more threats at school puts the boys to work and Sang finds herself growing into someone who could possibly help. She still struggles to trust them completely even though she's still not sure what the value of trust really means for a family of broken boys.
In terms of Sang's own family, shit hits the fan as she is abandoned and left on her own to take care of her older sister who doesn't even want her. With her mother taken away into intensive care, and her father with another family, Sang is alone though she comes to realise that is not true. With secrets forced out into the open, Sang is shocked to learn that her supposed family was never really as she thought it was. Answers to some, more questions come.
Towards the end of each of the books, we get a glimpse from the Academy boy's view as to what's happening. In this book, we see the boys learn the truth of Sang's identity.
I am beyond excited. So much is happening!!
