Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams
4.0
Very readable! I was definitely invested in Queenie's progression and development. I felt that some parts were thrown in just to make a point, however (e.g. She goes to a BLM march without any pretext of it happening, of her being aware it was going to happen, etc - so felt quite tokenistic)
I did really enjoy it, though. Made me want to pull my hair out at parts and want to shake her and tell her to stop bloody worrying so much. Also made me reflect on my own privilege and realise how few of the troubles she's dealt with have ever found their way into my life. I loved the familial relationships and the insight into a different culture and way of thinking - deepened my knowledge and appreciation. Ok brain fart over!
