A Childhood: The Biography of a Place by Harry Crews
5.0
Harry writes very straightforwardly but the characters in this true story often have some of the most poetic mid-century Southern aphorisms. A simple life in some ways, but also loaded with incredibly burdensome tragedy and trauma. tragic, but also beautiful for how raw and real and in awe of nature he is as a child. Ultimately super rewarding. forget "gritty nyc" it's all about real Country Southern Grit Lit
