This book captured me from the start and kept me reading which is exactly what I wasnt finding in everything else I’ve been picking up lately.
Excellent debut.
The opening held promises that left me curious. I liked the pacing. I liked the level of romance. Writing style was good! Not too lyrical but descriptive.
If you like urban adventure fantasy with a sprinkle of romance and a bit of darkness, this could be for you!
Will totally read book 2!
Why not 5 stars?
There were a couple writing ticks that bugged me and some romantasy tropes (why did the gown need to show up?) but it didn’t interfere with my reading.
I saw the main plot twist coming (but not one of the side ones though). The ending felt a bit too easy. I wanted the book to lean even further into the dark themes. I needed to see more of the side characters to feel invested in them. A few times there was a specific place mentioned and it pulled me out of the reading as it made it obvious I didn’t know enough about the world.
