When the Air Hits Your Brain: Tales from Neurosurgery by Frank T. Vertosick Jr.
5.0
Medical memoirs always have the distinct ability to stick with me even after years of reading it and I know this one will not be any different. Dr. Vertosick is at times so brutally honest with not just the cases he describes but about himself. He describes how he never felt as if he was born to be a neurosurgeon and at times wanted to quick or questioned if this was the career for him. He realizes though that he wouldn’t swap his profession for anything else. The cases in this book were very depressing at times, but it did a great job in making readers see how each patient shaped who Dr. Vertosick is not just as a physician, but as a person. I just truly was amazed at Vertosick’s perspective and how he was able to move on from some of these cases which proved to be very difficult in some cases. Just a very thought provoking and heart wrenching medical memoir.
