The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien
slow-paced
3.75
After several attempts over 20 years, I finally managed to finish this book (thanks to the audiobook narrated by Andy Serkis). Overall, I enjoyed it, I still struggled with Tolkien’s writing style but found it less cumbersome than The Two Towers. The pacing felt a bit better and you get a bit more into the emotions of the characters as they deal with their struggles but I still feel like I needed more of that. I wanted to feel more like how I do when I watch the films, and I find the writing is just a bit too stuffy to adequately relay the enormity of those emotions.
