Magic created war. Now, can it repair lives? Safi is set on developing her powers as an apprentice, even if it will be dangerous and means leaving her older sister and her ill father.

In a city powered by magic and still recovering from a detrimental war, Teen Ada is worried about her younger sister Safi’s new developing magic. Ada knows that Safi would do best to learn how to control her magic under the apprenticeship of a king’s magician, but it is very difficult for her to trust anyone when deadly, power-thieving liches have infiltrated the kingdom. Illustrations in this book are vivid and support the text in direct and helpful ways. This graphic novel dives head-first into a fantasy world, but it reflects on strong themes of independence and trust as well as sibling relationships and family bonds.
