The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell

4.0

The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell is well known as one of her best mystery thrillers. I have read several novels by Lisa Jewell now and I was looking forward to reading this one so I gave it a go via audiobook.
Young parents Tallulah and Zach go missing after a night out with friends and the dual timeline follows their relationship and life before their disappearance and afterwards, the police investigation and continued search for the young pair, mainly from the perspectives of Tallulah's mother Kim and Sophie, who is a new resident to the area and finds herself drawn in to the case.
Whilst dual timeline isn't usually for me, I did really enjoy this juxtaposition between life before and after, and the multiple narrators and perspectives. I thought the characters were very layered and with each chapter you slowly unravel more about the disappearance.
It was a very successful thriller that definitely kept me guessing right up until the end. I do think parts of the ending were rushed and left some plot holes but for the most part everything was uncovered. What I enjoy about Lisa Jewell is how she manages to weave multiple threads through the plot that all tie up at the end, even the most insignificant seeming details.
I would highly recommend Lisa Jewell if you enjoy mystery thrillers, and her best novels are usually disappearances in my opinion.
