If I were to choose some words to describe this book I would say, hilarious, steamy, sexy, wholesome, cute, and heartfelt. Mazey Eddings has a way with words that is infused with joy therefore creating lovable characters that are entirely unique to other characters I’ve read before. Lizzie and Rake were right away captivating with their natural chemistry, and even from their first meeting I loved how lighthearted and carefree they were with one another. If you’ve read Mazey Eddings other book, you gotta read this one as well!

This story opened with the introduction of Lizzie Blake. Right away, it seemed like Lizzie was the kind of woman who couldn’t quite get a handle on things due to her ADHD. For all the jobs she’s had, something usually went wrong… partly with it being her unable to concentrate or getting distracted. Aside from the fall backs with work, Lizzie was vivacious, full of life, and a chaotic mess that you couldn’t help but love. Lizzie wasn’t “perfect” by any means and I loved seeing her being completely, unapologetic herself, something that I feel like other readers will love about her as well. Early on, while Lizzie was suppose to meet someone for a date, she ended up meeting a beautiful Australian man named, Rake. Rake mesmerized Lizzie with his accent and flirty comments, and he in turn couldn’t help but take his eyes off the fiery red headed who made him laugh more times than he could remember. What was initially a random first meeting then turned to a steamy, hot two night stand between them… or so they thought.

With all the fun and spontaneous time that Lizzie and Rake spent together, it seemed like everything was over between them since Rake went back to Australia and Lizzie tried focusing on her work… until Lizzie started feeling different. Surprise! Lizzie was pregnant and guess who the baby daddy was… YUP! It was Rake! Suddenly Lizzie found herself with a baby on the way, and with losing her job, she felt so much and didn’t know what to do. I know some people aren’t fans of the pregnancy trope, and I would say that depending on how it’s written, I’m usually ok with it. The way that Mazey wrote Lizzie’s pregnancy and the worries and fears she had were very much real, and didn’t hold back on the options Lizzie could have taken. Lizzie being pregnant was by no means easy as pregnancy is difficult or varies for women. My point being that while this story had its moments of levity and humor, it also tackled heavy topics from Lizzie’s pregnancy and more.

Compared to Mazey’s other book, this had a lot more spice. I really liked that Lizzie was a sex positive character because, she loved physical intimacy, and loved the feelings that accompanied it. Often times, it’s a taboo subject for women to be seen or heard that they enjoy sex or pleasure themselves so to read about a character like Lizzie who is unapologetic about her sexual appetite and high libido was a great thing to highlight in the story. Normalizing sex and women who enjoy sex is a topic that I very much liked that was illustrated in this story, and with Lizzie being herself she made the story great.

Right away, from the initial meeting I could feel the sparks flying between Lizzie and Rake. I loved the chemistry between Lizzie and Rake, they had a natural ease to each other and with their flirty comments back and forth it was great. What I also loved about Lizzie and Rake was how much joy they had, and what I mean by that is just them enjoying each other’s company, literally laughing at the things they find humorous from the other person, and of course even when they got intimate it was playful and fun. The intimacy between Lizzie and Rake was unique in that they found moments of joy with one another, while also being very passionate. The spice in the book was amazing and the connection Lizzie and Rake had was so great to watch unfold.

A part of me forget that this was part of an interconnected series, and OMG I WAS SO HAPPY WHEN HARPER AND DAN MADE AN APPEARANCE! Awww I’ve missed those two. If you haven’t read the first book the first book, “A Brush With Love”, GO AND READ IT! That book is about Harper and Dan, and for those who have read the first book, this book will make a bit more sense since you see the other characters as well as it sets up other characters within the friend group for their own stories later in the future. Anyways, I just felt the need to express how happy I was seeing Harper and Dan in this book, and it was awesome!

In the best way possible, whenever I think of Lizzie, I think of her as a beautiful chaotic tornado. Lizzie had a lot of energy to her personality and was by no means boring. With Lizzie’s ADHD, she had trouble focusing and keeping track of things, which she couldn’t help. This story shed light on Lizzie’s way of trying to navigate her mind, and the negative connotation that people associate with her (not being aware of her ADHD) such as, being lazy, unfocused, etc. Lizzie was capable of so much more, and it hurt me to hear some of things she’s had to face on a daily basis because of her setback. Mazey did a great job of portraying the reality that comes with having ADHD, and the somewhat heavier topics that were mentioned along in the story as well.

With Lizzie’s bright, outgoing personality to Rake’s composed and organized self, those two may have been opposites, but were perfect for each other in every way. I absolutely loved this story, and it was every bit lighthearted while also touching on some important topics of mental health, and ADHD. Lizzie was truly unique and learning about her struggles was eye opening. In addition, seeing how Mazey created this story was simply amazing, she brought awareness to ADHD in a way that the thought had never crossed my mind, but now I was fully aware of it. Rake was a sweet and kind man, and when his protective side came out over Lizzie, I absolutely loved seeing that side of him! Seeing Lizzie take control of her life by pushing out the toxic people in her life was good for her overall well being, and besides she had such a loving support system from her friends, brother, and Rake. I loved the ending and the story overall was utterly perfect. Do yourself a favor and read this book, or better yet go back and read, “A Brush With Love”, and then start this book! A story that gives you romance, lots of laughs, spice, heartfelt moments, topics that bring awareness, and of course lovely characters, this is a story to check out.
