Initially I didn't think this book warrants a 5 star in my books but as I thought about it, I realised how brilliant the whole thing was and how much I actually enjoyed reading this book. It was short and punchy, yet packed enough to keep us thinking at the end of it all. Even though this is a classic, I think the topic proved to be timeless because even now, I draw references to how society is nowadays. I particularly enjoyed Beatty's speech in the middle of the book to Guy. What he talks about reminds me a lot of how people consume content nowadays. I doubt we would ever reach the drastic stage of the world F.451 is set in but it seems like quite a pity that all these fantastic information with all its nuance gets distilled into 2 minute videos that people take the wrong way and then spread disinformation with. I thought a lot about the cancel culture and whether or not we can truly decide to remove a certain person/content just because a group of people (no matter how large) decides it's bad. Truly though, we should teach people to decide things for themselves so that even if texts carry certain connotations that are harmful, people would know. Saying something like this is easy but executing is truly difficult but I do wish people aren't so quick to decide whether something is good or bad and never change their minds about it ever again. In this aspect, I really liked Guy's struggle with all the new information and discoveries and realising that he indeed can make his own decisions. I loved Faber, though he appeared briefly. But my favourite is definitely Clarisse who made such fun ridiculous statements that I can't help but feel a sense of endearment towards her.

On second thoughts, this is a 4.75 just because it didn’t make me feel overwhelmed with emotions like how I want my 5 star books to make me feel.
