How to Survive in the North by Luke Healy

4.0

Luke Healy weaves together two historical stories of Alaskan expeditions that went horribly wrong and juxtaposes them with a story of a college professor who makes a similarly disastrous choice to have an affair with a student. The exploration stories definitely carried the book and I'm not sure the modern story was necessary. That said, the real highlight was Healy's art, particularly his choice of vivid yet somehow icy colour palettes. It was an enjoyable and dramatic read.
