2.5

I feel like this book had the potential to be excellent, which made the fact that it wasn't so much more disappointing. First, I would have liked to see more chapters from Oren's perspective. He only had like 2 or 3, which seemed odd compared to the rest being from Tanith's perspective. Why even have any from him in that case? He was the more interesting character. It could have really given him more depth and showed his character development. Second, every challenge or obstacle was overcome too easily. I feel like there was no suspense or tension that lasted longer than the few minutes it took to read what was happening, and then it was over, and we were moving on. Last, Tanith was a very one-dimensional character, who very easily flip-flopped who's side she was on in every other chapter. I would have liked to see her emotional responses more than her reasoning, especially because it became repetitive and predictable.

Overall, it felt unfinished and immaturely written. I really wanted to love it, especially with a black female lead character, but I can only say it was slightly entertaining enough for me to finish it.
