As a fan of Sharon’s for the last several years, I pre-ordered a physical copy of the book as soon as that was an option, and was so excited when it finally came in the mail. Nevertheless, I struggled to get started with reading it, and I think what it really came down to was that I just wanted to listen to her read the book herself in the audiobook version of it, just as I have listened to her podcasts. And so I waited for the audiobook to become available from my library and thoroughly enjoyed it. Long-time fans will recognize some of the stories in this book, and will certainly recognize the positive messaging that Sharon puts forth every day in all the media she creates. I loved how clearly her voice came through in this book and how accessible she made history through the stories of these unsung Americans. I will admit to tearing up quite a number of times at some of the details of these people‘s lives. I appreciated how forthright Sharon is in this book about certain issues, really not leaving any ground for BS. At the same time, the overarching theme that she aims to convey with this book is one that is deeply rooted in positivity, hope, determination, and justice. I cannot fully express how grateful I am for Sharon’s work and for this book.
