Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
5.0
Will I ever be able to write a review ffor Simon which doesn't consist of me going
OMG OMG OMG OMG AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I LOVE SIMON AND BLUE MY ENTIRE LIFE REVOLVES AROUND THEM AND JUST KILL ME WITH THE CUTESNESSSSSSSSSSSS AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
UPDATE: I MANAGED TO WRITE A SEMI COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW WITHOUT FLAILING
I fell in love with Simon vs the Homosapiens Agenda because it was everything that I had never expected it to be. It was such a refreshing change from the same old stories and fantasies, my heart was dead. Becky Albertalli has a beautiful writing style that is funny and touching, and can engage you from the very first line. All the characters are very well developed and intricately thought out. They’re all so unique and adorable in their own ways (except Monkey’s Asshole) and you really can’t help falling in love with them. You’re also gonna cry, make no mistake about that.
Simon is the gayest, cutest, most realistic and sweetest cinnamon roll to ever be born and I swear you’ll want to wrap him up in a blanket and protect him forever and ever. Simon Spier is humorous and keeps us all entertained with his bubbly chatter and captivating thoughts, he’s basically the best fluffball ever!
The romance in this novel is super cute too! I mean I’ve always been a sucker for stories told through letters and e-mails BUT THIS IS NEXT LEVEL ADORABLE.
Seriously, from the very moment Simon discovers who Blue really is I couldn’t keep smiling and I swear I was giggling and squealing at every other sentence! Like wow, give my facial muscles some rest you two!
Other than that Becky covers some wonderful themes like friendship, the LGBT community, family and so much more! And Oreos- the one food that you should worship with every sliver of your soul (phew, to think I almost missed out the most important point)
And there are so many Harry Potter references spread all over like Oreo crumbs, it’s almost like a fangirl wrote this. Also, this book is 100% quotable like every other line can be a quote???
“But I’m tired of coming out. All I ever do is come out. I try not to change, but I keep changing, in all these tiny ways. And every freaking time, I have to reintroduce myself to the universe all over again.”
I can go on forever! Not to mention that Pride Month is currently going on so you don’t even need a reason to go pick up this book!
Okay, I’ll leave now and keep worrying for an eternity about the hundreds of points I must have missed out.
