Becoming Unruly: Conversations on Change from the Classroom to the Boardroom by La Royce Batchelor
4.0
Type of read: Lunch/Weekend Read.
What made me pick it up: I had the privilege of having Dr. Batchelor teach my public speaking course at UND. I always appreciated the way they conducted the classroom and I truly feel like it was one of those classes where I learned more than what was on the syllabus. I'm also using 'Becoming Unruly' as my book for the January Tennessee R.E.A.D.S prompt of 'read a book with a two-word title.'
Overall rating: 'Becoming Unruly' provides a realistic, easy-to-digest formula for approaching your personal and professional interactions. I'll be honest, any book that uses PB&J as an example and encourages the healing use of f*ck you will typically have my vote, but I truly feel like 'Becoming Unruly' offers information that is not only impactful but can be implemented. I highly encourage you to play along and do the activities throughout the book. Even if you're not fully writing them out or working through the entire activity, take five minutes to at least think about it. I'd very quickly recommend 'Becoming Unruly' and will definitely be referring back to keep challenging myself to not accept too much routine.
Reader's Note: I fully acknowledge that my review may be biased based on my positive time as a student in Dr. Batchelor's class.
