What this book did well it did very well. The perspective of a black woman in publishing and the microagressions she faces is very real. I think Nella is a compelling main character, she is struggling to pursue her dreams while also balance her black identity in a white dominated space. However, the plot dragged, and there seemed to be too much going on. The underground resistance didn't seem to do much for the plot, and the psychological twist at the end felt forced. I think there wasn't enough lead up to it honestly, and there were too many side characters to keep straight that didn't actually provide much to the plot.
