This story is based on the true events told from the perspective of a black nurse in post segregation Alabama in the late 1970s. I went into this story blind. What happens to the two girls is NOT what I was expecting. In many ways, it’s worse. I found myself utterly appalled on so many occasions. I cannot believe this happened merely 50 years ago … and that the social injustices continue to remain very similar.
“There is no greater right for a woman than having a choice.”
The history of this story is one I’ve never heard. I never knew these events took place. The story was well written and one of the best audio narrations ever. I highly recommend this book to everyone, but check the trigger warnings prior to reading. If you have any questions about them, I’m happy to help.
