Natives: Race and Class in the Ruins of Empire by Akala

5.0

The author draws both from his own experience as a British-born black man growing up in London and from a broader review history of racism – especially in the Commonwealth Caribbean – to expose British race and class issues and British racism denial. While the focus is on Britain, we often get a broader European perspective as well, and an exploration of how British racism relates to American racism (and other parts of the world). Overall, this is an excellent, must-read book if you want to gain a deeper understanding of racism in Britain.
