During a time when a lot of books aren’t working for me, I’m so very grateful to be able to rely on this series. I know I can return to Three Pines and the beloved characters and have a satisfying reading experience.

Still exploring the themes of good vs evil and corruption vs redemption, Penny continues to expose these characters in ways I wouldn’t expect. This book really pulled at my heartstrings as we see Gamache and Jean Guy at odds and not on speaking terms. Yet the way Gamache never writes Jean Guy off, but continues to look out for him and believe in his redemption made me tear through the pages.

I can absolutely see why this series is so loved. I can’t wait to continue the journey. I originally planned on reading through the series slowly, but as soon as I finish, k find that I just want to continue.
