Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game by Michael Lewis
4.0
(Read as audiobook)
What's it about?
It follows a Major League Baseball team, the Oakland A's, over their 2002 season as they drafted, traded for and played players wit good stats but who undervalued due to not conforming with prevailing conventions of what a good baseball player was supposed to look like or do. Focuses on the general manger, Billy Bean, and his assistant Paul DePodesta.
What are my thoughts?
I really liked this book. It talks about market inefficiencies and using models rather than direct experience. It makes me think that there must be many other situations were people are undervalues and don't achieve their potential. If it happened in baseball, a game were things are clearly measured, then it can happen elsewhere. The story is well told and engaging.
